Description:
Immediate need for a Sybase Production Database Administrator. Must hold Secret w/SSBI or Top Secret Clearance. Location options: Alexandria, VA, Herndon, VA, or Seaside, CA Position Overview: The successful candidate will participate in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment supporting a U.S. Government contract that provides personnel security management to DOD. The position involves the creation, maintenance, and monitoring of Sybase databases, in both a development and a production environment. The candidate will need strong analytical skills, strong communication skills, and extensive experience in both UNIX and Sybase administration. Experience in Sybase 16.x required. Requirements: Must have a current DoD Top Secret clearanceMust have a current Security+ certificationShould have a current Sybase ASE 16 certification (if currently has older cert, should obtain within 6 months)Database Administrator with at least 4-5 years’ experience supporting Sybase in a Sun Solaris environment.Experience with either Sybase Replication or Sybase High Availability is required; both are preferred.Experience supporting a production system/database is required.Experience in creating and executing Disaster Recovery Plans is highly desired.Must have strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skillsMust be able to effectively articulate complex, technical concepts to on-site clients, non-technical management and co-contractorsMust demonstrate a strong sense of self-motivation and directionMust be a team playerUnderstanding of application development lifecycle processes is a plusCommon office software skills (Word, Excel, Visio)Must have a strong motivation to make a differenceFamiliarity with Department of Defense personnel security issues is a plus Essential Function: The candidate will be involved in the creation, maintenance, and monitoring of Sybase databases, both in a development and a production environment. In addition, he/she will be involved in production deployments of the application, COTS tools, and database changes. Off hour work is therefore required for deployments and on-call rotational duties. Support in creating the deployment plans and installation instructions, along with process documentation, is expected. Strong technical leadership capabilities, data analytical skills and experience with the ability to communicate clearly both written and verbal is a must. Extensive experience of UNIX, Shell scripting, stored procedures, and relational databases is critical. Must be able to work in a team environment and work independently with minimum management oversight. Must possess high energy and have a strong motivation to make a difference. The work is fast paced with changing priorities. Task switching without loss of productivity is a must. Completion of assigned tasks is expected without constant review.
